Balustrading

We detail below some popular ways to guard the side of your stair.
BS6180 is the relevant standard, it is not possible for us to supply balustrading without a stair.

Timber

Newels and spindles can be plain square, turned, twist or made to match existing, some are available already primed. We buy from suppliers with extensive ranges in different timbers and pattern choices, recommendations can be made when quoting.  If a stair is being added, for example in the loft, we can copy the originals.

Metal

Metal spindles can be used, we can suggest some patterns or they can be sourced from several suppliers, note for cut string stairs they need to be 1100mm long. We work with specialist fabricators on some projects such as

Glass

There are a number of methods for attaching glass to the stair, it is a question of whether the stair is a cut or closed string and if visible fittings are preferred.

Handrail

Our standard handrail profile is a crown shape stocked in softwood or oak, this is grooved as necessary with a fillet as required. Other shapes and timbers can be machined to order, the cost of cutters may apply.
