to ensure that you receive our best
attention.
Factory
We manufacture in the same building,
a tour can be arranged during your visit.

New build
Consultation is recommended from the
early stages of the job with sensible
timescales allowed, complex stairs can
take months to manufacture especially
during busy periods. To ensure a good
fit, the opening should not be prepared
until the size of the stair has been
determined.
Replacement
If the reason for change is because
the stair is too steep or the tread
too small bear in mind that the well
opening will have been built to suit
the stair. The length of this together
with the number of risers dictate the
headroom, it is likely that structural
work will be necessary to accommodate
a new stair.
If changing for aesthetics, the layout
of the new stair will be similar to
the existing one if restricted to the
same opening.
Refurbishment and loft conversion
We specialise in copying the existing
stair, near match or standard alternatives
are suggested to keep costs down.
Listed buildings and conservation
work
Additional stairs can be manufactured
to replicate existing ones, however,
we are unable to undertake repair work.

Traditional
v Contemporary
The space available affects
the shape of a staircase, individual
taste influences the appearance. We
work closely with our clients to choose
a design which is in keeping with the
building whilst taking their own ideas
on board.
If you are looking for the wow factor
give us the challenge. |

Pricing
We do not have a standard price
list, all stairs are made to order and
quoted for individually. The choice
of timber, shape and component parts
determine the end cost, advice can be
given on how to tailor these to keep
within budget.
An indication of price for basic flights
can be given by telephone or via the
online
enquiry form. For hardwood, curved
and feature stairs drawings or dimensioned
sketches are required with as much information
and notice as possible. Estimating can
be time consuming, time taken to respond
will vary depending on current demand
and complexity of job. |

Solid timber
Timber is a natural material,
colours and grain will vary from one
piece to another. The most popular species
we use are redwood, whitewood, oak and
black walnut, other species are available
with new ones coming onto the market,
for the more information click here
- www.timbmet.com
It is extremely important that humidity
levels are under control before installing
timber products into any building in
order to avoid moisture related problems.
Laminated timber
It is becoming more common
and economical for softwoods to be laminated,
that is strips of wood joined together
in a number of ways. If your stair is
to receive a clear finish this should
be brought to our notice at enquiry
stage.
Larger sizes of hardwood are not available
kilned and are unsuitable for use internally.
To overcome the problem two pieces or
more are glued together and pressed.
Pieces are selected with the best match
for grain and colour, but in some cases
differences may be visible.
Sheet materials
Mainly MDF and ply are used.
Other materials
Veneers and pliable products
are used in curved stairs.
Safety nosings
These can be grooved into the
step or applied as specified. |

Timber balustrading
Standard newels and spindles
are stocked in square or turned patterns
together with baserail, newel caps and
finials. We have an exclusive Georgian
range which is made by hand.
We buy balustrading direct from other
specialist companies to complement our
stairs, please see our useful
links page.
Some standard handrail is stocked,
a huge collection of other profiles
are machined to order or cutters can
be made to match special profiles. Curved
handrail is made by hand to include
bends, ramps, wreaths and scrolls.
Glass
Glass panels can be incorporated into
the balustrade.
Metal
Wrought iron or steel uprights can be
used between the handrail and stair
tread or string.
Acrylic
Square or circular acrylic
balusters are another alternative. |

Site surveys
We offer a measuring service
within a reasonable travelling distance.
|
|
|
Fitting
service
A service is available within
Greater London and the Home Counties
to install the stairs we have manufactured.
We do not undertake any structural or
preparation work, this should be carried
out by a competent builder. |
|
|
Decoration
It is generally assumed that softwood
will receive an opaque finish, it is
important to inform us if this is not
the case. We do not have facilities
to apply finishes to our stairs, please
contact us for a list of recommended
polishers. |
